Amidst a season of continuous price increases, AT&T has decided to join the trend, upping its home internet fees by an additional $5 monthly. This latest adjustment, confirmed by the company to The Verge, comes after a similar rise in November 2024, not to mention a price hike affecting some customers in 2023.

An email sent to me on Thursday stated, “To maintain the level of service and support we promise, your home internet plan will see a $5/month increase, starting December 1, 2025.” It turns out, I’m not the only one affected, as AT&T confirms this is a company-wide change.

The official word from AT&T, as relayed by spokesperson Jim Kimberly, details the company’s reasoning:

While AT&T did incur $300 million in additional operating costs last quarter, they still reported a staggering $4.9 billion in net profit over those three months, with total profits reaching $12.3 billion throughout 2024.

Kimberly clarifies that although this pricing adjustment will impact all AT&T Internet plans, exceptions are made for customers who subscribed within the past year and those enrolled in the Access from AT&T program, which assists low-income families.

When I initially signed up with AT&T back in 2022, the cost was around $80 monthly. Currently, I’m billed $85.38, and with the impending change, my bill is set to surpass $90. Here’s the complete email I received:

I signed up with AT&T in 2022 for around $80 a month, currently pay $85.38, and I guess I’ll soon be paying over $90. Here’s the whole email I received:
