In a swift move, DJI is back in the spotlight, revealing the Osmo Mobile 8 just eight months after launching the Osmo Mobile 7 Pro. While the new model maintains the familiar design of DJI’s smartphone stabilizers, it brings fresh features to the table. Notably, the Osmo Mobile 8 can now rotate and pan a smartphone a full 360 degrees. It also introduces compatibility with Apple’s DockKit, enabling the gimbal to autonomously track and follow subjects across a broader range of camera applications.

As with other recent DJI releases, the Osmo Mobile 8’s availability remains limited to China for the time being. According to DJI spokesperson Daisy Kong, there is no definitive timeline for its release in the US or other international markets. In China, the new stabilizer is priced at 898 Chinese Yuan, which is approximately $126.

The OM8 continues to feature the Multifunctional Module found in the OM7, enhancing its magnetic phone mount with added strength and security. This module includes an LED fill light and doubles as a wireless receiver for DJI’s microphones, ensuring subjects remain in focus regardless of the camera app in use. It also boasts improved tracking capabilities, now able to follow not just people, but also pets like dogs and cats.

Battery performance remains impressive, offering up to 10 hours of use. The OM8 retains the built-in tripod legs and the 8.4-inch telescoping extension rod from its predecessor. Furthermore, DJI has introduced a counterweight mount to ensure stability when using smartphones with large lenses or additional heavy accessories.
