HBO is in the early stages of bringing a Baldur’s Gate television series to life, which will pick up the narrative from the popular RPG Baldur’s Gate 3 by Larian Studios. Deadline reports that Craig Mazin, known for co-creating The Last Of Us, is on board as the show’s creator, writer, executive producer, and showrunner.
The series aims to introduce fresh protagonists while also incorporating familiar faces from the game. Mazin intends to engage the original cast of Baldur’s Gate 3 with potential roles in the adaptation, according to Deadline. Fans are hopeful for the return of the entire main cast given their notable performances.
The release date for this Baldur’s Gate series remains uncertain. Notably, the game’s developer, Larian, is not participating in the production, as reported by Geoff Keighley.
Craig Mazin expressed his enthusiasm to Deadline, noting, “After investing nearly 1000 hours in the captivating universe of Baldur’s Gate 3, it feels like a dream to extend the narrative crafted by Larian and Wizards of The Coast. As a passionate fan of D&D, I admire the way Swen Vincke and his talented team adapted it.” According to the article, Mazin has even conquered the game’s challenging Honour Mode.
In addition to this project, Mazin continues his work on the third season of The Last of Us, which might conclude the series. Last year, Neil Druckmann, the show’s co-creator from Naughty Dog, announced his departure to concentrate on the studio’s gaming ventures.
