Disney has just unveiled the initial trailer for Tron: Ares, the long-anticipated follow-up to Tron: Legacy. Spanning a minute and a half, the trailer reveals little about the plot but showcases impressive visuals characterized by a dark and moody atmosphere, complete with the franchise’s iconic light trails.

The trailer begins with a night scene in the real world, featuring Jared Leto’s character, Ares, a Program turned physical, escaping from police on a light cycle. As he speeds away, he uses his light trail as a weapon, splitting a vehicle in two. Subsequent scenes display a gigantic airship hovering over a city, its presence known only by its exterior red light strips. Additional moments include onlookers watching the airship fearfully, aerial battles between human and digital fighters from the Tron universe, and what appears to be a scene of Ares receiving his physical form.

The intense visuals are set against a soundtrack composed by Nine Inch Nails, who are contributing to the film’s score. The trailer concludes with a voiceover by Jeff Bridges reprising his role as Kevin Flynn, stating, “Ready? There’s no going back.” The film is slated to be released in theaters on October 10th.

Disney included the poster above in an email to The Verge announcing the trailer’s release. In a YouTube video from Thursday’s CinemaCon presentation about Ares, Leto said his character is “a highly advanced program” who has entered the real world on a “do-or-die mission to fulfill his directive,” and promised that the movie “will hit you right in the grid … wherever that is.” In addition to Leto and Bridges, Tron: Ares is directed by Joachim Rønning and its stars include Gillian Anderson, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, and Cameron Monaghan.
