*Cue the iconic roar of Godzilla!* The first glimpse of the upcoming kaiju blockbuster is here. Titled Godzilla Minus Zero, this film picks up the narrative from 2023’s Godzilla Minus One. The series returns to its roots with a tone reminiscent of the original film, and while the newly released teaser offers limited details, it hints at exciting developments for the franchise.
Set in 1949, two years after its predecessor, Minus Zero follows the Shikishima family as they confront a fresh disaster, according to the official synopsis. The action now shifts from Tokyo to New York, with Godzilla making an imposing appearance beside the Statue of Liberty. Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe reprise their roles, and Takashi Yamazaki, who is also directing the giant robot film Grandgear, returns as director. Notably, Minus Zero will be the first Japanese film shot specifically for IMAX, as confirmed by Toho.
This period is bustling for the legendary kaiju. Godzilla is set to make an appearance in the next chapter of Legendary’s MonsterVerse with Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, and is currently featured in the Apple TV series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Mark your calendars, as Godzilla Minus Zero is scheduled to hit theaters on November 6th.
