Google is introducing new AI functionalities to Gemini Live that allow it to analyze your screen or use your smartphone camera to answer questions in real-time. This update was confirmed by Google spokesperson Alex Joseph in an email to The Verge. These features are based on the “Project Astra” technology that Google showcased nearly a year ago.

A user on Reddit reported that they spotted this feature on their Xiaomi phone, as noted by 9to5Google. The same user later shared a video showcasing Gemini’s new screen-reading capability. Google had announced in early March that two features, including this one, would be gradually rolled out to Gemini Advanced Subscribers as part of the Google One AI Premium plan by the end of the month.

Another Astra feature being introduced is live video functionality, which enables Gemini to analyze real-time footage from your smartphone camera and provide insights on it. In a recent demonstration video released by Google, a person is seen using this feature to seek advice from Gemini on choosing a paint color for their newly-glazed pottery.
