Hollow Knight: Silksong, the much-anticipated follow-up by Team Cherry to Hollow Knight, is slated to launch later this week with a price of $19.99. The September 4th release of Silksong marks a modest $5 increase compared to the original Hollow Knight’s $14.99 price.
Despite the option to charge more, Team Cherry has chosen to price Silksong comparably to its predecessor when adjusted for inflation over the last eight years. Back when Hollow Knight debuted, the team was committed to a lower price to enable wider access. Team Cherry cofounder Ari Gibson shared in a Reddit post in 2018, “$15 US can be quite hefty for many, especially outside the US. Our aim is for the maximum number of people to enjoy our games, so we price them to make that possible.”
This thoughtful pricing strategy for Hollow Knight allowed it to reach a massive audience, selling over 15 million copies, positioning it as a standout success among indie games. With Silksong priced at $19.99, Team Cherry anticipates similar success, especially since it’s currently the top wishlisted game on Steam.
Silksong launches at 7AM PT/10AM ET/3PM UK time on September 4th. It will be released on multiple platforms including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. Additionally, Silksong will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one due to a recent deal by Team Cherry.
