Google is discontinuing its Preferred Care extended warranty plan and introducing the Pixel Care Plus program in its place. The cost is quite comparable between the two. For a Pixel 9, you’ll be charged $8 per month or $159 for a two-year plan. If you opt for a Pixel 10 Pro Fold, the cost increases to $339 for two years or $18 monthly, with an additional small fee if you include the loss and theft package.

The significant updates in this new plan include complimentary screen and battery repairs, and reduced service fees for other types of accidental damage. Previously, under Preferred Care, fixing a broken screen cost $29. Now, with Pixel Care Plus, repairing a damaged front screen or replacing a battery with less than 80% capacity is free. However, if you damage the internal screen of your 10 Pro Fold, it’s not covered.

Service fees for other accidental damages vary by model, ranging from $49 for older models like the Pixel 8a and 9a, to $99 for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Generally, the service fees are lower, with costs up to $129 for the Pixel 9 Pro and Fold models. Additionally, the new loss and theft option, which adds an extra $1 or $2 monthly to your plan, varies depending on the model with deductibles peaking at $149.

These updated plans align Google more closely with companies like Samsung, which eliminated screen replacement fees with its extended coverage plans introduced back in January.
