Jessica Chastain has voiced her concerns over Apple TV+’s choice to delay the premiere of her series “The Savant” following the assassination of Charlie Kirk, emphasizing that the show is currently more pertinent than ever.

“I truly value my partnership with Apple. They’ve been outstanding collaborators and I greatly respect their team. However, I wanted to inform you that we disagree on the choice to postpone the debut of ‘The Savant,'” Chastain expressed in a social media post on Wednesday.

Just a day before, Apple TV+ issued a statement, not directly mentioning Kirk, indicating that “after careful consideration,” they decided to delay the show’s release. “We thank you for your patience and anticipate launching the series at a later time,” the statement from Apple TV+ read.

Kirk, a conservative activist and co-founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot earlier this month in Utah.

As detailed in promotional material from the streaming service, Chastain stars as a “highly secretive undercover investigator known as the Savant, tasked with infiltrating online hate networks to dismantle the most dangerous extremists in America.”

Chastain’s message highlighted the “disturbing amount of violence” observed in the U.S. over the past five years, mentioning the kidnapping attempt on Michigan’s Governor Gretchen Whitmer; the Capitol invasion on January 6, 2021; various assassination attempts on President Trump; the murder of Minnesota state Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her spouse in June; the assault on Paul Pelosi, spouse of former Speaker Nancy Pelosi; the killing of Kirk; a recent shooting at a Californian news station; and over “300 school shootings nationwide.”

“These events, although they don’t encompass all of the violence witnessed in the United States, highlight a widespread mentality that transcends political boundaries and must be addressed,” stated Chastain, 48.

“I’ve never shied away from difficult subjects, and while I wish this show wasn’t so relevant, unfortunately it is,” the “Zero Dark Thirty” star said.

“‘The Savant’ is about the heroes who work every day to stop violence before it happens, and honoring their courage feels more urgent than ever,” the Academy Award-winning performer said. “While I respect Apple’s decision to pause the release for now, I remain hopeful the show will reach audiences soon.”

An Apple TV+ representative didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

“Until then, I’m wishing safety and strength for everyone, and I’ll let you know if and when ‘The Savant’ is released,” Chastain said.
