Google and the Department of Justice are once again at odds, this time in a legal battle focused on whether Google wields a monopoly in advertising technology sectors.
Scheduled to commence on September 9th, the trial will be held in a federal court in Alexandria, Virginia. The DOJ asserts that Google has unfairly dominated the ad tech tools market crucial for publishers and advertisers, hindering their ability to monetize websites and promote their products. In response, Google argues that it has developed effective products that benefit customers and emphasizes that it operates in a competitive environment.
The trial follows a recent landmark verdict in favor of the government in a separate antitrust case against Google, heard by a different judge. A judge from the DC District Court ruled that Google had unlawfully monopolized the online search market. Consequently, while the ad tech trial unfolds, the government is also deliberating on the potential remedies to seek in order to reinstate competitiveness in the search domain.
