Two years back, Lenovo made waves in the tech world by unveiling an array of modular Magic Bay accessories tailored for its ThinkBook 16p. These innovative gadgets could be effortlessly affixed to a magnetic pin connector located at the top of the laptop’s display, enhancing its capabilities with features like a superior 4K webcam or LTE connectivity. Initially limited in scope, Lenovo has gradually expanded Magic Bay compatibility to encompass a broader range of its laptops, showcasing concepts for additional add-ons along the way. In a significant development, the company is now extending the Magic Bay system to third-party accessory manufacturers, as first observed by VideoCardz.com.

Revealing this new direction, a Lenovo product manager shared on the Chinese social media platform Weibo that the company has officially “opened up support for third-party accessories.” Although specifics about potential collaborators or the types of hardware they might develop remain sparse, this strategic move could significantly boost the feature’s popularity by broadening the array of available options.

Further fueling excitement, the product manager confirmed that the upcoming ThinkBook 14 Plus and 16 Plus models will be compatible with Magic Bay accessories. This expansion marks a notable shift, as Lenovo extends these versatile enhancements beyond its high-end laptop lineup, potentially reaching a wider audience.
