LG is introducing a new television in South Korea specifically designed for elder users who might find it challenging to operate modern smart TVs. The LG Easy TV boasts a simplified home screen with larger font sizes and a smaller range of apps focused on seniors. The TV provides picture and sound adjustments suited for older viewers with improved brightness and voice clarity and includes a built-in camera for video calls with family. Additionally, it can be set to display reminders for tasks like taking medications or watering plants.
The LG Easy TV is debuting in South Korea and is built on the LG QNED Evo QNED85A Mini LED 4K Smart TV. It will be offered in a 65-inch model for 2,769,000 won (approximately $1,965) and a 75-inch model for 3,869,000 won (roughly $2,746). The company aims to eventually launch the Easy TV in other regions with “rapidly aging demographics,” such as the US, according to Notebookcheck, but the timeline remains unspecified.
Caregivers who have resorted to covering remote control buttons to make them more user-friendly for parents or grandparents will be pleased that LG has also thoroughly redesigned the Easy TV’s remote, though there’s room for even more simplification.
The remote features a larger font and includes a “Help” button, which can be used to contact family members in emergencies or help users return to their previous viewing if they accidentally change inputs, along with an AI button for voice searching. However, the remote still has numerous buttons, surpassing those found on remotes by companies like Roku, Google, and Apple. As someone who often ends up on unwanted streaming platforms due to their dedicated buttons, eliminating these could further streamline the remote’s design.
