Best Buy has kicked off its early Black Friday sales, featuring significant discounts across a variety of products, including smartphones, gaming PCs, and wireless headphones. Among the standout offers is a special deal on LG’s 48-inch B5 OLED 4K TV, available for just $529.99—an impressive $770 off the usual price. For those interested in a larger screen, the 55-inch version is also available at an all-time low price of $896, with discounts accessible through retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, and LG.
The B Series from LG is a cost-effective entry point into OLED TV technology. While the B5 model may not reach the brightness levels of some LED TVs in the same price range, it excels in delivering superior black levels, contrast, and viewing angles. Functionally, this model rivals the display quality of LG’s previous flagship, the C3.
Equipped with 4K resolution, the B5 OLED includes four HDMI 2.1 ports, each supporting 4K at 120Hz with a variable refresh rate for an optimized gaming experience. The TV also supports advanced features such as Dolby Vision and HDR10, along with Filmmaker Mode, which preserves the original cinematic experience by disabling settings like motion smoothing and image sharpening. Powered by LG’s Alpha 8 AI Processor Gen 2, navigating the webOS interface is smooth and responsive. Additionally, with Apple AirPlay 2 and Google Cast compatibility, streaming from your phone or tablet is straightforward.
Despite its many strengths, the B5 does face challenges with peak brightness and reflection handling, as noted by RTings. However, it remains an excellent choice for gaming, and performs well in dimly lit environments, making it a great option for enhancing movie nights. Having dealt with a broken Phillips TV for months, I believe this model might just be the ideal replacement.
