Tragically, the young man has succumbed to his injuries.

The accompanying sister, who escaped physical harm, was found by search and rescue teams on the mountain. Although unharmed, she was in shock from the incident.

The mountain had been closed due to heavy rainfall in the area and was slated to reopen the following day.

However, in light of the tragedy, the reopening was postponed until yesterday.

Senior Sergeant Kylie McLellan said the incident was an awful thing to happen.

“It’s an extraordinarily sad and tragic accident today,” he said.

“The falls occurred as a result of some late rain that made the terrain extremely slippery.”
