At this year’s CinemaCon, Warner Bros. gave attendees an exciting preview of the new Superman by sharing an extended sneak peek. The footage, now available online, primarily features a severely injured Superman (played by David Corenswet) pleading with his dog, Krypto, to take him home, as he is unable to walk or fly.
Although the scene is comedic, it’s somewhat unsettling to see Superman’s body flopping around, as if most of his bones are broken. Things take a delightfully strange turn when Krypto drags Superman to a creatively imagined Fortress of Solitude, where a team of cape-donning medical robots is prepared to perform triage. Among the vivid visuals is a shot of the robots using concentrated sunlight to heal Superman. The trailer also provides extended glimpses of Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan), Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi), Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan), and Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion).
Gunn appears to be betting on audiences embracing a more whimsical and adventurous superhero universe, which could prove successful when Superman hits theaters on July 11th.
