OpenAI is launching a feature that allows users to interact with apps directly within ChatGPT. This means you can engage apps to assist in tasks while having a conversation with the chatbot, which provides guidance and context.
The company demonstrated several use cases during a live presentation. An OpenAI representative used ChatGPT to engage with Canva to design a poster for a dog-walking business. Canva provided several examples after a brief wait, and the representative then requested a pitch deck based on the poster. The presenter also queried Zillow through ChatGPT for a list of homes for sale in Pittsburgh, resulting in an interactive Zillow map, along with follow-up questions.
Starting today, apps such as Booking.com, Canva, Coursera, Expedia, Figma, Spotify, and Zillow are accessible within ChatGPT. Additional apps, including DoorDash, OpenTable, Target, and Uber, will be introduced in the coming weeks. Recently, ChatGPT also enabled Etsy purchases through its platform, demonstrating its effort to integrate more web services.
Developers can now access a preview of the SDK for creating apps. Later this year, they will have the opportunity to submit their apps for review and publication. OpenAI, led by CEO Sam Altman, plans to create an app directory for users and will provide information on monetization shortly, according to Altman.
