Tenways has introduced its latest creation, the CGO Compact electric bike, in the European market. This innovative e-bike is specifically designed to navigate tight spaces such as car trunks, narrow apartment hallways, and compact train compartments.
To enhance its compactness, the CGO Compact boasts 20-inch wheels, folding pedals, and a handlebar with a twistable stem, allowing it to hug walls seamlessly. Its adjustable steering column and low-step frame accommodate various rider heights, making it an ideal shared e-bike for families. Additionally, its MIK HD rear carrier is capable of carrying up to 27kg (nearly 60 pounds), with provisions for attaching accessories like a crate or child seat.
While Tenways might not yet be a global household name, the Chinese e-bike manufacturer, headquartered in the Netherlands, is gaining traction across Europe. This is largely due to its competitive pricing, elegant designs, and network of over 1,500 retail and service outlets. Priced at €1,999 (approximately $2,365), the CGO Compact is more affordable than the average European e-bike, priced at around €2,681.
Although Tenways does offer e-bikes in the U.S., the CGO Compact is currently available exclusively in Europe. It features a 250W rear-hub motor paired with a Gates Carbon belt drive, ensuring a low-maintenance ride. The bike offers a range of up to 100km, powered by a 500Wh removable battery. However, its single-speed drivetrain delivers just 45Nm of torque, making it ideal for flat urban landscapes. For added comfort on uneven paths, the suspension seat post provides some relief. An integrated torque sensor ensures smooth pedal-assist power, while Tektro hydraulic disc brakes offer reliable stopping power.
True to its name, the CGO Compact excels in size efficiency, though it is not particularly light. The bike weighs in at 19.8kg (nearly 44 pounds) without accessories, and 22.1kg (around 49 pounds) with them, which is heavier than many full-sized e-bikes, including other models from Tenways. This makes it less versatile compared to options like the Brompton G foldable, which is lighter but costs over twice as much.
