Sandisk has unveiled what it claims to be the world’s smallest 1TB USB-C flash drive, designed to be so compact that it can remain plugged into a laptop indefinitely without being obtrusive.

The drive, known as the Extreme Fit, is comparable in size to the wireless dongle used for a Logitech mouse. Its clever L-shaped design allows it to fit snugly into a USB-C port, protruding ever so slightly in a vertical direction. This ensures it remains flush with a laptop’s surface, avoiding any interference with the laptop lid when closed.

Sandisk markets this device as featuring a “leave-in design,” making it an ideal semi-permanent storage expansion for your computer. Although its slim profile is intended to minimize the chance of snagging on other items, users should exercise caution when transporting their laptops. The delicate nature of USB-C connectors means they are not built to endure significant pressure in that orientation.

Buyers can choose from a range of capacities, including 64GB, 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and the standout 1TB model. Equipped with USB 3.2 Gen 1 technology, the drive boasts transfer speeds of up to 400MB/s, though the 64GB version maxes out at 300MB/s. While it may not be the fastest option on the market, speed isn’t its primary selling point.

For those who don’t require a full terabyte, Suneast offers an even smaller model released in May, which supports up to 512GB—though it’s currently only available in Japan. Meanwhile, Sandisk’s innovative flash drive is now available for purchase in the US and other regions, with prices starting at $15.99 for the 64GB version and climbing to $117.99 for the 1TB model.
