Sony’s lineup of PlayStation 5 consoles saw a price hike in August due to increased US tariffs. However, in a festive twist, you can now snag a $100 discount on various models until Christmas. This offer is particularly enticing if you’ve been eyeing the PS5 Pro, Sony’s most advanced and costly console to date. Originally priced at $749.99, you can currently find it for around $689.99 at major retailers like Amazon, Walmart, and Target. According to Sony’s PlayStation Direct, this sale is expected to conclude on December 25th at 3 AM ET, though some discounts may persist on more affordable models.
The PS5 Pro brings games to life with superior resolution, making fewer compromises on visual elements like ray tracing and shadow quality compared to the standard PS5. Some titles not only look better but also perform more smoothly on the Pro. However, keep in mind that the PS5 Pro lacks a disc drive, restricting it to digital purchases. Yet, if you prefer physical media, an optional drive is available for an additional $80.
Equipped with a larger GPU than any other PS5 model, the PlayStation 5 Pro boasts double the internal storage of the current slim versions, offering 2TB versus 1TB. A standout feature exclusive to the Pro is the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), an AI-driven technology that enhances graphics in supported games for a sharper image. While the Pro’s performance edge is evident in many games, no single title has yet made it an absolute must-have. Nonetheless, if a price reduction was the incentive you needed to upgrade, now is a prime opportunity to do so.
