The PlayStation 5 Slim and Pro are on sale for Black Friday

Though Black Friday is still on the horizon, Sony is already enticing gamers with substantial discounts on three PlayStation 5 models. The slimmer PS5 Digital Edition is now available for approximately $399—a $100 markdown—making it the year’s lowest price at retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart. Similarly, the standard PS5 Slim sees a price cut to about $449, also a $100 reduction, at these major outlets.

For those seeking enhanced performance, the PlayStation 5 Pro is now offered at Amazon, Walmart, and Target for around $649, matching its previous lowest price with a $100 discount. This promotion is particularly significant following a price increase in late August due to U.S. tariffs. These deals are accessible now and extend through December 18th.

The PS5 Digital Edition stands as the most affordable variant of Sony’s latest gaming console. It features a reconfigured port setup and, notably, excludes a disc drive, limiting gameplay to digital titles. However, an external disc drive can be purchased for $79.99 if physical games or Blu-rays are desired. This version includes 1TB of internal storage, which can be expanded with an NVM M2.0 SSD, provided it has a heatsink, like the Samsung 2TB 980 Pro model.

The standard PS5 Slim shares much of its design with the Digital Edition but includes a built-in disc drive, making it ready for physical games or Blu-rays from the get-go. This option is more cost-effective than buying the Digital Edition and an external disc drive separately, especially for those with a collection of physical games and movies.

The upgraded PlayStation 5 Pro boasts an improved GPU, enhanced memory, support for Wi-Fi 7, and AI-driven upscaling. These features enable it to deliver higher resolutions and frame rates in select games compared to the standard model, though no titles are exclusive to the Pro. According to our reviewer, the graphical enhancements are subtle unless viewed from within 10 feet of the TV. Only games labeled “PS5 Pro Enhanced” can fully utilize the console’s advanced capabilities.

While it lacks an internal disc drive, the PS5 Pro is compatible with the same external drive as the Digital Edition. It also offers 2TB of internal storage, doubling that of the non-Pro versions, which might delay the need for additional storage upgrades.

Even more PlayStation Black Friday deals

Discounts on PS5 consoles are the main attraction of PlayStation’s Black Friday sale, but you can also score a discount on accessories. The selection includes the PlayStation Portal and a PlayStation VR 2 bundle, which are both at their lowest prices ever. The DualSense and the more premium DualSense Edge controllers are also on sale, with up to $30 off. These deals are also available until December 18th — or while they remain in stock.
