A recall has been issued by Segway for all Ninebot Max G30P and Max G30LP electric scooters due to a faulty mechanism that can lead to the handlebars and stem folding while in use, posing a fall risk, as reported by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). This recall comes after 68 incidents reported by the company, resulting in 20 injuries that range from minor bruises and abrasions to lacerations and even fractures.

Since January 2020, approximately 220,000 of these scooters have been sold through various retailers such as Best Buy, Costco, Walmart, Target, Sam’s Club, and Amazon. The Ninebot Max G30P is identifiable by its gray and yellow design, while the Max G30LP model is predominantly black with yellow accents.

Owners are advised by Segway to discontinue use of the recalled scooters immediately; however, replacements are not being provided. Instead, the company suggests that customers contact Segway to obtain guidance on whether the folding mechanism requires adjustment and to receive a complimentary maintenance kit. This kit consists of the necessary instructions and tools to secure the folding mechanism on either model, ensuring that it remains locked during operation.
