Sony’s PlayStation 5 lineup experienced a price hike this August due to increased tariffs in the US. However, with the holiday season upon us, there’s an opportunity to save $100 on various models. This discount is particularly enticing if you’re considering the PS5 Pro, Sony’s top-tier and most advanced console. Originally priced at $749.99, it’s now available at Amazon, Walmart, and Target for approximately $689.99. According to Sony’s PlayStation Direct, this promotion for the PS5 Pro is set to conclude on December 25th at 3 AM ET, although similar discounts might continue for some of the less expensive versions.

The PS5 Pro is designed to deliver superior gaming experiences, showcasing games at their highest resolutions with fewer compromises on visual enhancements like ray tracing and shadow quality compared to the standard PS5. Certain games not only look better but also perform more efficiently on the Pro. However, it’s important to remember that the PS5 Pro is digital-only, lacking a built-in disc drive. If physical media is a preference, an external drive can be purchased separately for $80.

Featuring a more robust GPU than any other PS5 model, the PlayStation 5 Pro also offers double the internal storage of the current slim models, boasting 2TB compared to 1TB. Additionally, the Pro includes the exclusive PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) technology, which leverages AI to enhance graphics in compatible games, delivering a superior visual experience. Although the performance benefits are clear in many titles, no game has yet made the upgrade an absolute necessity. Still, if the reduced price is the motivation you need, now is a prime time to make the leap.
