We’ve been eagerly anticipating Spotify’s lossless streaming feature for over four years now, and recent developments suggest that its release might finally be approaching.

The Twitter account for Spicetify, a tool that allows users to customize the Spotify client via the command line, has highlighted new insights. According to them, the latest Spotify version contains some concealed references to lossless audio. An image they provided shows ‘lossless’ mentioned in the sidebar when connecting a device. Another screenshot reveals ‘lossless’ as a streaming quality option in the app’s settings. Furthermore, the Spicetify account has observed code indicating that lossless streaming will be integrated into Spotify Connect and the web player.

It’s important to note that Spotify hasn’t launched its lossless streaming yet. However, these subtle hints and recent observations suggest that the company might soon introduce this feature, fulfilling long-standing expectations.

Spotify initially announced a “Spotify HiFi” tier in 2021 that it intended to launch that year, but that didn’t happen. Spotify CEO Daniel Ek said in 2024 that the company was working on a “deluxe” version of Spotify. And in February, Bloomberg reported that Spotify was aiming to roll out a new “Music Pro” tier with features like higher-quality streaming by the end of this year. The tier could cost as much as $5.99 per month more than its current subscriptions, Bloomberg says.
