Yesterday, Forbes and CNBC reported that Musk had dismissed Omead Afshar, who previously managed operations in North America and Europe and was one of Musk’s trusted associates. (Bloomberg and The Wall Street Journal also noted Afshar’s departure, but didn’t specify it as a firing.) This action comes in the wake of a considerable downturn in Tesla’s car sales – the company’s revenue in this sector decreased by 20 percent compared to the previous year in the last quarter.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Afshar started his career with Tesla in 2017 as a project manager in the CEO’s office. In 2022, an internal investigation reportedly looked into a glass purchase he made for a confidential project.
Recently, Tesla also experienced the departure of Milan Kovac, the Vice President leading the Optimus humanoid robotics team. Kovac stated his decision to leave was driven by the need to dedicate more time to his family outside the country. Musk expressed gratitude to Kovac in a response.
Electrek reported Friday morning that Tesla had hired Henry Kuang, who, in a now-inaccessible LinkedIn profile, listed his title at GM’s Cruise as “Senior Director / Head of Autonomy” and his title at Tesla as “Director, AI / Deep Learning for Autonomous Driving.” However, in an update, Electrek said that “Tesla denied hiring Kuang for the role listed in his LinkedIn profile.”
