The RDW, the Netherlands’ vehicle authority, has announced the groundbreaking approval of Tesla’s Full-Self Driving (FSD) Supervised after extensive testing spanning over 18 months. This decision marks a significant milestone as the Netherlands becomes the inaugural European nation to permit the deployment of FSD on its roads. The approval could potentially pave the way for broader acceptance across the European Union. Given Tesla’s European headquarters is situated in Amsterdam, it’s fitting that the Netherlands leads in adopting the company’s advanced driving technology.

In their official announcement, the RDW emphasized the positive impact of correctly utilizing driver assistance systems on road safety. They stated, “When used correctly, these systems enhance road safety by assisting drivers with their tasks, serving as a complementary aid. By ensuring continuous and stringent monitoring of the driver, the system offers a safety advantage over other existing driver assistance technologies.”

The rollout of the FSD Supervised update (version 2026.3.6) has commenced, currently targeting a select group of users. To enable the self-driving feature, drivers are required to watch an instructional tutorial and pass a subsequent quiz. This process serves as a reminder that FSD Supervised is not synonymous with full vehicle autonomy, cautioning users against complacency.
