In the innovative Steam Frame VR headset, Valve has introduced a unique feature: dual audio drivers embedded within each side of the accompanying head strap. This design places the sound source conveniently close to your ears during use. During a recent visit to Valve’s headquarters, I had the opportunity to test this device, and I found the audio quality to be quite satisfactory. According to Jeremy Selan, a hardware engineer at Valve, the dual drivers not only enhance the audio experience but also play a crucial role in reducing vibrations, thereby improving the headset’s tracking capabilities while gaming in VR, as reported by The Verge.

The Frame, much like other VR headsets, incorporates outward-facing cameras within its main body for tracking purposes. Selan explains that audio with robust bass levels can introduce vibrations to the headset, potentially disrupting tracking. However, the Frame’s head strap design ingeniously addresses this by mounting the dual drivers on each side in opposition to one another. This configuration inherently cancels out vibrations, ensuring more reliable tracking even when delivering powerful audio.

It’s a fascinating piece of technology! Additionally, the headset boasts a modular design, opening up the possibility of integrating other head straps with alternative audio solutions in the future. I recently had the chance to experience this intriguing headset firsthand, and it left quite an impression.
