Krisp, recognized for its noise-canceling app, is introducing a novel AI-powered feature aimed at transforming a speaker’s accent to American English in real time. This new feature is integrated into Krisp’s existing desktop application and operates as a virtual microphone, altering the user’s voice during video calls on platforms like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, and Webex.
The AI Accent Conversion tool from Krisp is designed to change a person’s accent with a latency of 200 milliseconds, which they describe as an “imperceptible delay in conversations,” while maintaining the speaker’s natural voice. According to the company’s demo, the tool effectively makes someone’s speech sound American, although the result may carry a slightly robotic tone.
The tool currently supports more than 17 Indian dialects, but Krisp says it plans to add other English accents in the future, such as Filipino.
The tool was initially introduced to call center agencies before being widely released. Arto Minasyan, Krisp’s co-founder and president, explains in a press statement, “As someone who has an accent, I’ve frequently found that people have difficulty understanding me, even when my English is fluent. This issue isn’t about bias — it’s simply a reality of communication. In quick-paced meetings, even minor misunderstandings can hinder decision-making, necessitate repetition, and lower overall productivity.”
AI Accent Conversion is launching in beta, and free users can use it for up to 60 minutes per day. There’s also a $15 / month business plan for unlimited use.
