Tinder users now have an intriguing new way to enhance their online dating profiles. By confirming their identity through a specialized verification orb, they can earn five complimentary boosts on the platform. This development is part of a broader movement, as more services begin to integrate this innovative orb technology. The initiative, spearheaded by World—a company co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman—was first piloted in Japan last year and is now reaching select markets, including both Japan and the US.
To confirm their authenticity and not be mistaken for bots or AI entities, individuals must physically visit one of World’s orbs. These devices capture images of a person’s face and eyes, encrypt them, and store them on their phone, ensuring that the user has complete control over their data. Following this process, users can link their World ID to compatible apps like Tinder, which then awards them a “verified human badge” on their profile. Although Tinder also offers verification through a photo or government ID, the enticing offer of five free boosts is exclusive to those who use the World ID verification, and it’s available for a limited period.
In addition to this, World is introducing a dedicated World ID app, separate from its previously announced super app. The World ID app is tailored for managing “proof of human” verification across various platforms that recognize it. This service is not limited to Tinder; World is also collaborating with platforms like Zoom and Docusign to incorporate its ID verification system.
