All the ways TikTok is broken: here’s what’s real and what’s not

Speculation has swirled on social media, with some suggesting TikTok’s recent issues are a form of censorship. However, TikTok USDS has clarified that these disruptions, persisting for over a day, stem from a power outage at a data center. This has led to widespread glitches, affecting the platform’s ability to host various videos and messages through Monday night. Claims of censorship, particularly targeting anti-ICE protests or discussions about Jeffrey Epstein, have been debunked. Even California’s governor has been caught resharing inaccurate information originally posted by accounts such as “intelligentpawg” and PopBase.

Problems began early Sunday morning, coinciding with the recent transition of TikTok’s US operations to new ownership under Oracle & Co. Users have reported significant issues with the platform’s For You page algorithm. Additionally, features like comments are either loading slowly or not at all, and many are finding it nearly impossible to publish new videos.

Stay tuned as we continue to sort through the social media chatter to distinguish fact from fiction regarding TikTok’s ongoing technical difficulties.
