In recent years, Samsung’s The Frame has reigned supreme in the art TV segment. However, the landscape is evolving with invigorating additions from competitors like TCL and Hisense. Now, LG is stepping into the spotlight with its own innovative offering: the LG Gallery TV. This latest entry will integrate seamlessly with LG’s Gallery+ service, launched earlier this year, offering a rich array of visual displays. Users can enjoy a diverse collection of visuals, from stunning artwork to captivating cinematic images and engaging gaming scenes. While the Gallery+ service does offer a limited free selection, accessing its full range of features requires a subscription, mirroring the model of Samsung’s Art Store.
It’s essential not to confuse the new LG Gallery TV with the G Series OLED TVs, such as the LG G5. Although the G Series was previously branded as the Gallery Series, the Gallery TV marks a distinct product line. This new model is a mini-LED TV, designed with a specialized screen to lower glare and minimize reflections, enhancing the art-like viewing experience—likely achieved through a matte coating. While LG hasn’t disclosed specific details about the backlight setup, it’s reasonable to assume that, like its peers in the art TV domain, it employs edge lighting. It’s worth noting that OLED technology, despite its superior picture quality compared to mini LED, faces limitations like image retention or burn-in, making it less suitable for prolonged display of static images.
Taking inspiration from Hisense, LG is introducing a frame with its Gallery TV, offering a default white frame with an optional upgrade to a wood-colored version. The TV will be available in two sizes, 55 and 65 inches, although LG has yet to announce the pricing details. This strategic move by LG broadens the options for consumers seeking art-inspired television solutions, promising to add a touch of elegance and style to any living space.
