X is back up for most users after what appeared to be a significant outage that spiked early this morning around 9AM ET.

According to a recent update from global internet monitor NetBlocks, the platform X faced global connectivity issues today, marking the second occurrence in a week’s time. It’s important to note that these interruptions are not linked to any nationwide internet problems or restrictions. Data from Downdetector indicated a sharp increase in outage reports shortly after 8AM ET, although these began to decline approximately 45 minutes later. As of the latest information, the number of reports has significantly decreased from tens of thousands to just a few hundred.

On various social media platforms, users have been voicing concerns about network issues over the past few days. A leading post in the r/Twitter Reddit community even showed an image of an error on the X login screen, with numerous responses highlighting login difficulties. X’s developer platform’s incident history log reveals that a widespread outage began Thursday and continued for about a day. Currently, the platform status page mentions an error that states, “Login with X (OAuth) and other X platform login flows are experiencing degraded performance.”

This situation followed reports of a fire at an X-owned data center in Oregon on Thursday morning. Wired reported, based on information from multiple anonymous sources, that the fire, which required significant emergency crew intervention, involved batteries in one of the rooms at the data center. Although there were initial outages reported following the fire, these seemed relatively minor in comparison.

X did not immediately respond to The Verge’s request for comment.

Update May 24th: Outage reports have mostly subsided.
