A 17-year-old boy has been fatally attacked by a shark on the NSW North Coast.
The attack took place at Wooli Beach, north of Coffs Harbour, where the boy was surfing.
Several people came to the teen’s assistance to help him back to shore.
Ambulance NSW confirmed earlier they were treating the teenager at the beach.
He suffered serious leg injuries and died at the scene.
Beaches in the area including Wooli, Diggers Camp and Minnie Water have been closed.
Mr Tratt was spearfishing with his brother when the attack took place.
A doctor and paramedic were winched down from the RACQ Lifeflight Rescue helicopter to render aid to Mr Tratt, who had suffered significant injuries to his leg from the attack.
But despite working to save him for more than an hour, he died at the scene.
