Authorities in the Bay Area announced this week that charges had been filed against three men in the shooting death of a news crew’s security guard last November.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Kevin Nishita was shot during an attempted robbery of a KRON4 crew on November 24. He died in a hospital three days later.

Alameda County prosecutors identified the suspects in the shooting as Shadihia Mitchell, Hershel Kiante Hale, and Laron Gilbert, KTVU reported. They’ve been charged with murder, attempted robbery, and assault.

Mitchell and Hale were arrested in December but not named at the time. Police also said a third suspect remained at large. Police said Gilbert was arrested on an unrelated parole violation, but detectives did not have enough information to charge him in Nishita’s death. He is still at large.

Prosecutors said one of the suspects arrested in December was the registered owner of the suspected getaway car used by the men to flee the scene, although they didn’t specify which one. The did say they believe Mitchell to be the gunman who shot Nishita.

Police said they believe all three are connected with a San Francisco gang.

Nishita was a retired police officer who had been working in private security for news crews after a string of armed robberies.
