The three females were held captive until May 6, 2013, when Berry escaped with her six-year-old daughter, whom she had given birth to while incarcerated, and alerted authorities. Within hours, police had freed Knight and DeJesus and arrested Castro.
Castro was charged with four counts of kidnapping and three counts of rape on May 8, 2013. As part of a plea deal, he admitted to 937 felony counts of rape, kidnapping, and aggravated murder.

According to an Indiana coroner, Figueroa died in April 2012, at the age of 48, following an accidental overdose of the drug oxycodone.
He was condemned to life in jail for more than a thousand years for a horrific crime, but he chose to shorten his term.
Castro, 52, hanged himself with a bedsheet, according to Coroner Dr. Jan Gorniak. He was detained at the Orient Correctional Reception Center.
The medical team at the prison attempted but failed to resuscitate him. Castro was transported to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, where he died at 10:52 p.m.
