The commercial station is hoping a new ad-free premium subscription service will entice disaffected fans to follow the 72-year-old star from Radio 2.
Observers believe it may help entice those who might want to switch stations but are put off by the idea of adverts.
Many Radio 2 fans have hit out at what they see as a deliberate attempt to prioritise younger listeners.
Bruce, who has the most popular show on UK radio, follows a string of older stars out the exit door at the BBC including Vanessa Feltz, 60, and Paul O’Grady, 67.

Meanwhile, Steve Wright, 68, was replaced in the weekday afternoon slot last year by ex-Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills, 49.
And the latest listening figures appear to show ‘Radio 2 refugees’ are abandoning the station for rivals like Boom Radio.
