With the hopes of repeating similar feats, coach Hansi Flick has called up Gotze again as a squad member for the 2022 Campaign.

Mario Gotze Sick With Metabolic Disturbances: Illness And Health Update 2022
In a major career setback, Mario Gotze suffered a metabolic disorder that affected his fitness and games. It was first revealed in early March 2017.
Although he returned to Dortmund in 2016, he spent six months on the sidelines during his first year due to myopathy, a disorder that affects the fibers in the muscles, meaning they do not function properly.
The condition made it difficult for the German player to lose weight after he picked up injuries and his Dortmund teammates nicknamed him ‘chubby fairy.’

Due to the condition, Götze failed to replicate the form he had previously shown for club and country.
Speaking about his health condition, Götze released a statement that read, “I’m currently undergoing treatment and will do everything in my power to be back in training and helping my team to achieve our common goals as soon as possible.”
However, there has been no doubt about his abundance of talent, with former teammate Marco Reus claiming Mario is the best player he has ever played with, ahead of Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski.
Fortunately, Götze rediscovered his form after a move to the Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in 2020, where he played for two years before joining Frankfurt for £ 2.5 million in the summer.
He has started every game for the German club, and his participation in five UEFA Champions League games helped Frankfurt advance to the next round.
The football player’s situation appeared to improve when Hansi Flick rewarded him with a recall to the national squad. Despite missing the 2018 World Cup, he still has a chance to make amends in Qatar.
