Star Wars and Moon Knight actor Oscar Isaac is known for his wicked sense of humor. His friendship and funny interactions with The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal are well-documented. Isaac also displayed an effortless rapport with his Ex Machina co-star, Alicia Vikander, in a giggle-inducing game of “bang, marry, kill.”

Isaac is best known for portraying Poe Dameron in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker. But he’s also shown incredible range in films such as A Most Violent Year and Inside Llewyn Davis, for which he received a Golden Globe nomination.
In 2014, he starred opposite Alicia Vikander and Domhnall Gleeson in the sci-fi thriller Ex Machina. The story follows Caleb (Gleeson), a 26-year-old programmer at the world’s largest internet company. Caleb wins a competition to spend a week at a private mountain retreat belonging to Nathan (Isaac), the company’s reclusive CEO.
When Caleb arrives, he discovers he’s a participant in a strange and fascinating experiment where he must interact with the world’s first true artificial intelligence, a beautiful robot named Ava (Vikander).
The film’s serious tone called for dramatic acting, and the cast delivered. Given Isaac and Vikander’s interactions in their roles, you’d never know they had a chummy relationship off the set. It was evident in a 2015 interview in which the two actors played the “bang, marry, kill” game.

During an interview with Screen Rant in 2015, Vikander and Isaac played the hypothetical question game “bang, marry, kill.”
Vikander had never heard of the game, so Isaac explained the premise: Three people are proposed to the player, and that player must decide which one to have sex with, marry, or kill.

The three options for Isaac and Vikander were the main characters of Ex Machina. In true Isaac fashion, he hilariously chose to marry himself and kill Caleb. But then he backtracked and said, “I’d bang myself and marry Ava. That’s a tough one.”
Vikander offered an equally funny response: “I’m already banging myself, so I’ll marry you.”
The two giggled and agreed the hypothetical marriage would have been a good one.

More recently, Oscar Isaac played the lead in Marvel’s Moon Knight on Disney+. The series premiere viewership was reportedly the second-highest of any Marvel show on Disney+, tying The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
In Moon Knight, Isaac portrays Marc Spector/Steven Grant, a man with dissociative identity disorder who believes he derives powers from the Egyptian moon god Khonshu.
The series has an 87% Fresh score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences love the series even more, as evidenced by the 92% audience score. One reason for the series’ success is that viewers can relate to Isaac’s neurodivergent character, a rarity in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The MCU is taking its portrayal of mental health seriously. The studio hired Dr. Paul Puri, a board-certified psychiatrist, to work with the cast to ensure a fair portrayal of dissociate identity disorder. Isaac himself has alluded to the show’s deliberate efforts to take the disorder seriously and create a story that breaks the stigmas surrounding mental health.
Although Moon Knight Season 1 has concluded, it’s still available on Disney+. So far, Marvel and Disney+ have remained mum on whether the series will see a second season, but Isaac says he’d love to continue.
Next up, the actor is set to star in the live-action Metal Gear Solid. After being a fan favorite pick to portray Solid Snake, Isaac is set to play the role in the next video game film.
Isaac has had a surprisingly long list of credits for such a young actor. The 43-year-old’s diverse body of work has also won him praise from fans and critics alike. Let’s hope Isaac will soon star in some comedies that showcase his sense of humor and comedic timing.
