Johnny M. Hunt (born July 17, 1952) is a sixty-nine-year-old American evangelical Christian preacher, author, and former president of the Southern Baptist Convention from Lumberton, North Carolina.
Johnny Hunt is a former president of the Southern Baptist Convention and an American evangelical Christian pastor. He was also the previous senior pastor of Woodstock, Georgia’s First Baptist Church.
Furthermore, his church honored him for 40 years of ministry in November 2016, including 30 years as senior pastor of First Baptist Woodstock Church.

Johnny Hunt, the former president of the SBC, is accused of s3xually abusing a lady just weeks after his presidency ended in 2010. Hunt allegedly blackmailed the woman into silence by claiming to disclose the incident would destroy the SBC’s churches.
To Guidepost, four additional people validated most of the woman’s claims. Hunt rejected the claims but resigned from the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention just days before the report was released.
The lady, who requested anonymity, said she is still dealing with the aftermath of the encounter and the years of mental, emotional, and spiritual abuse she claims she received from Hunt and others.
She told the Chronicle, “We’ve remained silent for 12 years.” “Trauma steals your voice away,” says the author.
Hundreds of SBC church leaders and volunteers have been charged with s3x offenses since 2000, according to Abuse of Faith, a 2019 investigation by the Houston Chronicle and the San Antonio Express-News.
Is Johnny Hunt Arrested?
Although Johnny Hunt has not been arrested, the investigation into this case has begun in earnest. The report grieved executive committee officials, who pledged to “do everything we can to avoid future cases of s3xual abuse” in churches in a statement.
In a statement, Executive Committee Chairman Rolland Slade stated, “This is the beginning of a season of listening, mourning, and learning.”
Investigators looked into emails between executive committee staff and members, as well as attorneys from Guenther, Jordan & Price. This Nashville-based law firm has represented the SBC and the executive committee for 56 years.
Johnny Hunt Family Background
Johnny Hunt was born in the hamlet of Lumberton, North Carolina. He is a member of the Lumbee Native American Indian tribe from North Carolina.
When Hunt was seven years old, his father abandoned the family. Hunt is accused of breaking into the condominium of a woman he knew who was staying next door to him while on vacation in Panama City Beach in July 2010.
Janet Allen Hunt of Wilmington, North Carolina, became Johnny Hunt’s wife. They are the parents of two girls. Deanna Hunt Carswell and Hollie Hunt Hixson are their names.
