A vulnerable woman who suffered a year of hell at the hands of Met monster David Carrick today said: ‘I hope he dies in jail’.

Emma (not her real name) said she was ‘delighted’ at the minimum 30 year sentence the serial rapist had received and revealed that he mouthed ‘sorry’ at her across the court.

She told MailOnline afterwards: ‘I looked straight at him and thought for the first time that I’ve got the power now, not you, it was amazing listening to the judge delivering his sentence.

‘In some ways I’d have liked to see him get a whole life term, but a minimum of 30 years is a good start – I would be surprised if he ever gets out, to be honest, and I hope he dies behind bars.’

Last month Emma recounted her appalling experience exclusively to MailOnline and how Carrick, 48, initially charmed her, but then kept her a virtual prisoner after she moved into his home in Stevenage, telling her: ‘I am the law’ as he abused her daily.

She was handcuffed, whipped with a metal chain, sexually abused and locked naked in an under stairs cupboard as ‘punishment’ and believes he would have killed her, had she not finally summoned up the courage to leave him.

During a break in the court proceedings, Emma, who took her grown-up daughter along with her for support, said Carrick locked eyes with her and mouthed the word ‘sorry’ across the court.

‘I didn’t know what to make of it,’ she said, ‘It was confusing, and I wondered if he was playing with me in the way he used. But then I thought, “No more”, I’m stronger than he is.

‘Anyway, I think there’s only one person he feels sorry for, as the judge pointed out. When he tried to kill himself in prison, it wasn’t out of remorse, only that he felt sorry for himself. ‘

She told Southwark Crown Court in a moving impact statement read out by a barrister: ‘He broke me. Never in my life have I felt so isolated and alone.

‘I was not allowed to see family or friends. I was told consistently I was a whore and a slut; that my two daughters, the youngest being 16 at the time, were also sluts.

‘I was ridiculed, teased, and shamed. I was told what to wear, what I could eat and what amounts.

‘I was instructed to walk behind, not beside or in front. I was whipped; urinated on and locked naked in a cupboard. At times, made to sleep naked on the floor.

‘My chest was sat on; I was strangled, kicked, and threatened. Text messages wishing me dead by car crash or cancer were sent, with a desire to “p***” on my grave once dead. I was told I was worthless and would be better off dead.’

Emma said she did consider reading out her own impact statement, as some victims had, but decided in the end that ‘I wanted the words to hit home to him, and didn’t want to falter over reading it in a stressful situation.’

Images were released for the first time showing a tiny cupboard that Carrick locked one of the woman in as a form of punishment, as well as a whip he used on the victim.

She added: ‘I’m so glad I did go to the court to see the sentencing. It wasn’t an easy decision to come face to face with him again.

‘But I think it was the best thing that I the best choice that I made, was to go there. I wanted to meet the other women who went through similar experiences to me, but most of all, I want to hold my head up high and let him know: “You’ve done this to me, and now I’ve taken your power away. ‘Now, I’ve got the power.’

The judge slammed Carrick for taking ‘monstrous advantage of his victims’ while serving as a Metropolitan Police officer for more than 20 years.

At least five of Carrick’s victims bravely attended Southwark Crown Court to watch as their attacker was jailed for a minimum of 30 years and 239 days in prison before being considered for parole.

The disgraced former firearms officer wore a dark suit, white shirt and tie as he appeared in the dock in front of a packed courtroom at a hearing that was televised.

During sentencing, Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb said Carrick had taken ‘monstrous advantage’ of his victims with whom he had ‘brutal, controlling and coercive relationships’ with.

She told Carrick that he ‘behaved as if you were untouchable’, adding it was a ‘spectacular downfall for a man charged with upholding the law’ having lost his liberty, job and status.

She said: ‘These convictions represent a spectacular downfall for a man charged with upholding the law and empowered to do so even to the extent of being authorised to bear a firearm in the execution of his duty.

‘Behind a public appearance of propriety and trustworthiness you took monstrous advantage of women.

‘You brazenly raped and sexually assaulted a number of women, some very brutally, and you behaved as if you were untouchable.

‘You were bold and at times relentless, trusting that no victim would overcome her shame and fear to report you.

‘For nearly two decades, you were proved right but now a combination of those 12 women, by coming forward, and your police colleagues, by acting on their evidence, have exposed you and brought you low.

‘You have lost your liberty, your job and your status. You have before you the prospect of a difficult time in custody for many years.’
