Mary J Blige was in a six-year relationship with singer Cedric “K-Ci” Hailey of the R&B group Jodeci in the 1990s. In the 1995 interview on the UK television show The Word, Mary stated the two were engaged.
Cedric denied they were planning to marry. Cedric and Mary’s tumultuous relationship inspired Mary’s album My Life.
Although Cedric is best known as the main vocalist of Jodeci and the second-lead singer of K-Ci & JoJo, Cedric has also performed in solo projects as K-Ci, most notably his 1994 rendition of Bobby Womack’s “If You Think You’re Lonely Now.”
On December 7, 2003, Mary married her manager, Martin “Kendu” Isaacs. At the time, Martin had two children, Nas and Jordan, from his first marriage and an elder daughter, Briana, from a previous relationship.
In July 2016, Mary filed for divorce, alleging “irreconcilable disagreements.” Mary and Martin’s divorce was completed on June 21, 2018.
