WASHINGTON (The Hill) – President Trump announced on Friday that he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska next Friday. The agenda for this meeting, set in the U.S., will focus on discussions aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine.

“The much-anticipated summit between myself, President of the United States, and Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, is scheduled for next Friday, August 15, 2025, in Alaska. More information will be provided soon. Thank you for your attention to this important issue!” Trump stated on Truth Social.

Earlier, the president confirmed his meeting with Putin would involve discussions on territorial exchanges as part of the proposed peace negotiations. Reports indicate that Putin has offered a ceasefire proposal which includes Ukraine ceding some territories.

“The regions in question have seen over three and a half years of conflict. Both Russians and Ukrainians have suffered heavy losses, so we’re considering options to exchange some territories. It’s a complex situation with no simple solutions, but we’re working to regain some ground and make adjustments,” Trump explained.

“There’ll be some swapping of territories to the betterment of both, but we’ll be talking about that either later or tomorrow or whatever,” he added.

At that point, he mentioned plans to reveal the meeting location soon, although he refrained from doing so during the peace agreement signing with Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders.

When asked about possibly hosting a similar event including Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump expressed optimism, stating, “I believe we have a chance of achieving that,” and added, “we’re determined to resolve it.”

He also punted to Zelensky to prepare to sign a ceasefire agreement.

“Now, President Zelensky has to get all of his, everything he needs, because he’s going to have to get ready to sign something and I think he’s working hard to get that done,” the president said.

Trump had been weighing whether to meet with Putin, as well as Zelensky, in the coming weeks and raised the idea of meeting with the two leaders during a call with European allies on Wednesday, a source confirmed to The Hill. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt this week said Russia had expressed an interest in meeting with Trump.
