Regional Mexican singer and TV personality El Dasa, whose real name is Dasahev López Saavedra, was the winner of the premiere season of Univision’s Tu Cara Me Suena.
The reality music competition, which debuted in October, ended on a high note on Sunday, reaching 3.8 million total viewers. El Dasa also won the audience’s popular vote in the favorite celebrity contest.
During the weeks leading to the grand finale, El Dasa showed his ability to transform into different music icons, including the late Juan Gabriel, Cristian Castro, Pitbull and Amanda Miguel, delivering vocal performances that wowed judges Charytín, Kany García, Jesús Navarro, and Angélica Vale.
Performances of participating celebrity contestants aimed to benefit a myriad of charities. El Dasa will donate his $40,000 prize to the non-profit advocacy organization Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA).
Since its premiere, other competing celebrities impersonated stars such as Gloria Trevi, Ricky Martin, Thalía, Joan Sebastian and even Elvis Presley.
Hosted by Rafael Araneda, Ana Brenda Contreras and Amara La Negra, Tu Cara Me Suena positioned Univision as the No. 1 Spanish-language network during the Sunday 8:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. time slot with double-digit audience advantages over Telemundo among Total Viewers 2+ (+44% adv.), Adults 18-49 (+21% adv.) and Adults 18-34 (+30% adv.), averaging 1.4 million Total Viewers 2+, 500,000 Adults 18-49 and 200,000 Adults 18-34 during its five airings from October 14 to November 22. Preliminary overnight ratings showed Univision continued a wide lead over its competitor during the finale.

Reality shows have consistently given Univision the upper hand on Sunday nights among Spanish-language viewers. The finale of the network’s previous reality series in the same time slot, Quién Es La Mascara, attracted 2.0 million Total Viewers 2+, 707,000 Adults 18-49 and 327,000 Adults 18-34, marking its highest-rated telecast during its full-run.
