Luton Town will be looking to pick up their second Premier League win of the season against fellow newboys Burnley.

The Hatters picked up their first ever Premier League victory against Everton last weekend – with Tom Lockyer and Carlton Morris scoring in a 2-1 win for Rob Edwards’ side.

Victory over the Toffees lifted last season’s Championship play-off winners up to 17th and out of the relegation zone.

Why is Luton vs Burnley being played on Tuesday night?

Luton Town were due to play Burnley on Saturday, August 19.

However, the club confirmed back in July that their ‘extensive ground improvements’ would not be ready in time.

Kenilworth Road is sufficient for the Premier League, but the club need to build a new stand to meet broadcast and media requirements.

Therefore, the club requested to postpone their opening game against Burnley – which was granted by the league.

‘Whilst ongoing work is progressing extremely well and currently ahead of schedule,’ Luton’s statement read.

‘The Premier League understandably requires guarantees to its fixture schedule within sufficient time to advise supporters and broadcasters of any changes in advance.

‘Due to the extent of the project, the club cannot absolutely guarantee supporters that any future unforeseen issues would not cause any delay potentially impacting upon the scheduled opening game at home.’

Eventually, the Premier League rescheduled the game to take place on Tuesday, October 3.

On the decision, Luton Town Chief Executive, Gary Sweet, said: ‘The joint decision to delay this fixture is regrettable, especially given the amazing progress that continues to be made on our construction works; our current programme is indeed on time, but there is no additional contingency and therefore can’t give a cast-iron guarantee at this stage that a problem outside of our control, however minor, wouldn’t force a postponement further down the line and inconveniencing supporters of both clubs.

‘Although this news will be a disappointment, this will make the matchday experience even greater for fans when they do get to come back.

‘We would like to thank the Premier League and Burnley for their help in arriving at this practical decision.’

Luton vs Burnley – Key information

The two teams will go head-to-head tomorrow evening, with kick-off at 7.30pm. 

Tuesday’s clash between the two sides will take place at Kenilworth Road.

Both sides last met back in February – with Ashley Barnes scoring the only goal for Vincent Kompany’s side.
