What is Fatlip’s Net Worth?
Fatlip, an American rapper with an estimated net worth of $1 million, initially gained recognition in the 1990s as part of the Los Angeles hip-hop collective, the Pharcyde. The group made waves with their albums “Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde” in 1992 and “Labcabincalifornia” in 1995. Fatlip ventured into a solo career in 2005 with his album “The Loneliest Punk.”
Early Life
Born Derrick Stewart on March 26, 1969, in Los Angeles, California, Fatlip’s journey into music began in the late 1980s when he performed as a dancer under the moniker Jammer D. It was through the vibrant LA dance scene that he connected with future Pharcyde members Slimkid3, Imani, and Bootie Brown, which ultimately led to his transformation into the artist known as Fatlip.
Career Beginnings
The Pharcyde, formed in 1991, swiftly became a fixture in the hip-hop scene, signing with Delicious Vinyl Records. Their debut album, “Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde,” released in late 1992, was lauded for its innovative and playful style. The album featured the hit single “Passin’ Me By,” which topped the Hot Rap Songs chart. While the album’s sales were modest, it played a significant role in shaping the West Coast’s alternative hip-hop movement and is now considered a genre classic. Their follow-up album, “Labcabincalifornia,” was released in 1995 and included popular tracks like “Drop” and “Runnin’,” reaching number 37 on the Billboard 200. However, by 1997, Fatlip parted ways with the Pharcyde due to internal conflicts.
The Pharcyde
Fatlip’s solo debut, “The Loneliest Punk,” came out in late 2005, cleverly nodding to jazz legend Thelonious Monk in its title. The album featured tracks like “What’s Up, Fatlip?,” which appeared in the soundtrack of the video game “Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland.” Following this release, Fatlip worked with various artists. In 2007, he collaborated with the Chemical Brothers on “The Salmon Dance.” The next year, he contributed to the French group Jazz Liberatorz’s albums “Clin D’Oeil” and “Fruit of the Past.” He also appeared on Neon Neon’s “Stainless Style” and N.A.S.A.’s “The Spirit of Apollo.” In 2012, he reunited with former Pharcyde member Slimkid3 for the album “Love.”

In 2023, he unveiled his first live album, “Live from the End of the World,” featuring rapper Blu.
