A woman from South Australia has been detained after being caught on video driving against traffic. She is suspected of driving under the influence and had a toddler in the back seat during the incident.

Images show smoke coming from a front wheel as she narrowly misses oncoming traffic on Port Wakefield Road at Dry Creek this afternoon.

Her car eventually lost a tyre and came to a stop centimetres off the busy highway.

The woman remained in the front seat with the child on her lap as police made their way to the scene.

Officers breath tested the woman about 1.45pm and then took her into a police car.

It is alleged she blew .169, which is more than three times the legal alcohol limit.

She has been reported for drink driving and aggravated driving without due care.

The woman has also lost her licence for 12 months.
