The atmosphere on Tuesday’s episode of “Late & Live,” the companion show to Big Brother, took an unexpected turn when host AJ Odudu was taken aback by an audience member’s inappropriate comment about housemate Caroline Monk.

The controversial moment unfolded during the discussion of the latest developments in the Big Brother house. Caroline, a 56-year-old public relations executive, had recently shown vulnerability after receiving a call from her mother, who cautioned her about fellow contestant Teja.

When the audience was asked if they felt any sympathy towards Caroline, a particularly insensitive remark was made by someone seated in the front row. The individual stated, “Her parents are going to die next week so she needs to see them before that.” This comment elicited audible gasps from those present.

A visibly disturbed AJ Odudu quickly intervened, expressing her disapproval by saying, “No, no, no – I’m not putting that out there.” Her firm response underscored the inappropriateness of the comment.

According to a source who spoke to the Daily Mail, the audience in the studio was clearly taken aback by the remark. They noted that the comment was even louder in person than it appeared to viewers at home, highlighting the shock it caused.

A source told the Daily Mail: ‘The entire audience were shocked at the contributor’s comments, which were louder in the studio than picked up on the mics for the viewers at home.’

The insider added: ‘Big Brother producers won’t be inviting the fan in question back to the set following the comment and they’ve essentially been blacklisted as a result.

‘AJ was also shocked but handled it professionally and quickly moved on with the show, while showing her distain for the cruel swipe.’

The comment, however, went far from unnoticed by viewers as well as other members of the audience.

Taking to Twitter/X to express their outrage, they wrote: ‘THEY DID NOT JUST SAY THAT [skull emoji and crying emoji].’;

‘I dont like caroline, but no amount of hate i have for her justifies anyone saying that [sic].’;

‘I was also in the studio audience tonight and honestly we all gasped – and it was much louder than broadcast.’;

‘Genuinely thought we’d misheard but obviously not. Completely unacceptable.’;

‘This is definitely not the view of the wider audience and I’m sorry that this was said.’

Caroline has been at the heart of several controversies in the latest civilian edition of Big Brother.

These include misgendering her fellow openly trans housemate Zelah, prompting Big Brother to give her a formal warning.

Big Brother said: ‘Caroline, Big Brother thinks that your language in these instances was offensive and unacceptable and cannot permit you to use language in a way that could cause offence to your fellow Housemates and the viewing public.’

As well as this, Caroline refused to eat halal meat and told housemate Richard that he was ‘so f*****g boring’.

On Thusday’s episode, Caroline stunned housemates recounting her engagement to TV star Matthew Wright.

Caroline and Matthew were publicly pictured together on a number of occasions side-by-side beaming for the cameras at red carpets events.

However, after Matthew proposed to the eccentric Big Brother housemate, their relationship soon abruptly came to an end.

While in a conversation with Conservative housemate Emily Hewertson, she probes her: ‘Were you with Matthew Wright? Or have I made that up?’

Caroline, who has been engaged five times, replies: ‘Yes – I was engaged to him.’

Her revelation leaves them stunned as fellow contestant Marcus interrupts: ‘What? You were engaged to Matthew Wright?’

She then explains: ‘We went out for quite a long time. He was there the day the surgeon said “you’ve got cancer”.

‘I moved in with him because I had a flat, because I was ill I moved in with him.’

However, she continued by sharing how a holiday abroad exposed cracks in the relationship and she swiped Matthew became ‘ratty’ with her.

Caroline said: ‘Everything was really good and then it just went Pete Tong. We went on holiday to Canada and we just didn’t get on at all. He was ratty with me, I was ratty with him.

‘We got engaged in Canada. We did two steps with cowboys dancing and then we sat outside on this big Canadian plain where all the horses were and stuff. And then he said ‘will you marry me?’ and put a little thing around my finger.’

‘On the way home we went through the airport. I’d designed a ring in my head which was a heart with all diamonds going around it and it was there [in the airport].

‘He bought the ring for me in Canada and then I went home and told everyone and then we split up.’

Big Brother Late & Live is available to stream on ITVX.
