A Canadian Armed Forces member was found dead after going missing for three days in Eastern Europe.
Warrant Officer George Hohl was found deceased in Latvia on Friday while deployed on Operation Reassurance.
The Canadian Armed Forces are working with the Latvian authorities on the investigation.
The cause of the Warrant Officer’s death is still unknown.
Hohl was assigned to Operation Reassurance, collaborating with the Aviation Battalion within NATO’s Multinational Brigade-Lativa, as reported by the Canadian government.
Canada’s Department of Defense does not believe that this incident poses a threat to the remaining deployed members.
The Warrant Officer was a vehicle technician from the 408 Helicopter Squadron, based in Alberta, and had served in the Canadian Armed Forces for close to 20 years.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney shared a tribute for Hohl on Facebook: ‘It is with profound sadness that I learned about the passing of Warrant Officer George Hohl, a devoted member of the Canadian Armed Forces.’
‘Warrant Officer Hohl was part of NATO’s Multinational Brigade Latvia under Operation REASSURANCE – a brigade I had the privilege of visiting late last month.’
‘On behalf of all Canadians, I offer my deepest condolences to Warrant Officer Hohl’s family, friends, and to all those who served with him.’
Lieutenant General Steven Boivin, Commander Canadian Joint Operations Command, shared his condolences on the defense department’s news release:
‘I am deeply saddened to learn of this outcome following the search efforts in Latvia over the last several days.
‘My sincere condolences go to Warrant Officer Hohl’s family, loved ones, and friends during this challenging period. His two decades of service with the Canadian Armed Forces showcase his commitment to Canada both domestically and internationally.’

‘On behalf of the entire Canadian Armed Forces, I extend my deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and colleagues. Warrant Officer Hohl will be honored for his extensive service, and our thoughts are with all who knew him in this time of great grief.’
