A lesbian attorney has come forward with claims that she was dismissed by New York Attorney General Letitia James, after voicing her concerns about the use of puberty blockers and sex change surgeries for minors.
Glenna Goldis, known for her progressive public-interest work, found herself out of a job on January 22. She was previously employed in the attorney general’s consumer frauds bureau and was reportedly terminated for what was described as ‘disruptive public speech,’ as reported by The Free Press.
According to Goldis, her superiors cautioned her that persisting in expressing views that clashed with James’s strong support for pediatric gender medicine (PGM) could lead to her dismissal. Despite this warning, Goldis continued to speak out, driven by her commitment to the safety and well-being of gender nonconforming youth.
Attorney General James was notably part of a group of 13 attorneys general who, in opposition to the Trump administration, advocated for maintaining access to gender-affirming care. This coalition’s stance came into sharper focus following an executive order issued on January 28, 2025. The order declared that the United States would cease funding or supporting the gender transition of children.
In response, the coalition quickly rebuked the executive order in February, labeling it as ‘wrong’ and asserting that such medical procedures are ‘lifesaving.’ Goldis, however, challenged the truth of these statements, voicing her dissent based on her own experiences and concerns as a member of the LGBTQ+ community.
But, Goldis said she knew her boss’s statement was not true and, as a lesbian, she cares passionately about the safety of gender nonconforming youth.
She claimed that James’s agency attorneys struggled to explain why her blogs, essays, and public speaking events, were ‘problematic’.
Goldis said that attorneys pointed to a line from one of her blog posts that justified their claims: ‘When the general counsel finally identified an objectionable line in my blog, it was the statement describing the holding in US v. Skrmetti (which, she stated, bans PGM and is not considered discriminatory by the court).’
Glenna Goldis, a progressive public-interest lawyer, was fired on January 22 from the attorney general’s consumer frauds bureau
She was accused of engaging in ‘disruptive public speech,’ after she publicly opposed her boss, New York’s Attorney General Letitia staunch pro-position on pediatric gendermedicine (PGM)
‘She wrote that it contradicted James’s legal position.’
Goldis said she became concerned about the issues after hearing a lesbian detransitioner on a podcast explain the disturbing side effects she suffered, such as vaginal atrophy caused by taking testosterone and nerve damage from her double mastectomy. A double mastectomy is the removal of one or both breasts.
Goldis highlighted some of the hypocrisies of James, who claims to champion the LGBTQ community in a post to social media: ‘I tried to explain to NYAG officials that PGM, by its nature, targets children who defy sexed norms – whom studies show are more likely to be gay when they grow up.’
Goldis stated that PGM can reportedly lead to sexual dysfunction, chronic genital pain, and incontinence, among other possible side effects. She said no one in authority at NYAG showed interest in the concerns that PGM may be homophobic.
Goldis said if the Attorney General truly cared about LGBTQ youth, she would research ‘gender’ drugs and what is known about their risks and benefits.
Additionally, she added that James’s pro-position on PGM was echoed around the office.
Goldis claimed that the agency’s attorneys struggled to explain why her blogs, essays, public speaking events, and panels were ‘problematic’ and warned her that if she kept sharing her views she would be terminated
Goldis said a colleague allegedly called girls who oppose biological males in women’s sports ‘anti-trans.’
When she went to speak with her co-worker about his claim and to inform him about the number of boys who had recently won state titles in girls’ sports, she was threatened.
‘If you say one more word on this subject, I’m calling HR,’ Goldis recalled her coworker saying.
Goldis noted online that James and officials treated her as a persistent critic.
Despite her firing, she noted that she was honored to work in the consumer fraud bureau; however, she once again disputed the claim that she engaged in ‘disruptive public speech.’
Goldis wrote, ‘I haven’t disrupted the Democratic elite’s commitment to PGM providers, but I’m just getting started.’
