Renowned CNN anchor Abby Phillip remains unfazed by criticism from liberal circles over her decision to feature ‘MAGA people’ on her program. She argues that showcasing diverse perspectives is essential for public awareness.

During her appearance on Charlamagne tha God’s Breakfast Club radio show on Tuesday, the 36-year-old Phillip addressed the backlash she faces for her choice of guests on NewsNight.

Phillip acknowledged that many liberal CNN viewers express frustration over her platforming of Trump supporters. Nevertheless, she believes that engaging with opposing views is crucial.

“I receive a lot of flak from the left, with people questioning why I invite MAGA supporters on the show,” she shared with Charlamagne. “But it’s important to be aware of what they’re saying.”

Drawing on her extensive experience in political journalism, Phillip emphasized the necessity of understanding the current political landscape. “We are in a period where staying informed about all sides of an issue is vital,” she asserted.

She concluded, “Ignorance doesn’t benefit anyone, which is why it’s imperative to know what everyone is discussing.”

Phillip then directly addressed her critics, telling them they should know what MAGA voices are saying because their views reflect those of a large portion of the American population.

‘Just so you know, half the country voted for Trump and for Trumpism, and it’s not helpful to be completely unaware of what is happening in those media ecosystems,’ she added.

Phillip argued that the media is ‘fragmented right now’ and that people only gather news and information in their ‘own silos.’

She claimed that many liberals are unaware about the conversations being held in ‘conservative ecosystems.’

Phillip shared how she ‘wants the debate’ that inevitably arises when individuals with conflicting opinions and beliefs participate in a roundtable discussion.

She believes it is ‘important’ for both liberals and conservatives to ‘practice being challenged.’

‘A lot of people are not used to being challenged,’ she recalled of several guests that have appeared on her show.

‘When they have somebody literally staring them in the face and saying, “I disagree with you,” for some people, they are really taken aback – they don’t know how to deal with that.’

Phillip argued being able to think on one’s feet, quickly respond, and go back-and-forth on an issue is a ‘very important skill’ to have in politics.

She said she will ‘take the criticism from all sides’ and is very proud of what she and her team do on NewsNight.

‘Very few people are willing to take the chance of being criticized and I don’t mind it. That’s part of the job,’ she added.

Just last month, Phillip faced off with conservative commentator Ben Shapiro over Trump’s crime crackdown in Washington DC and his plans to next shift his focus on Chicago.

During a discussion on her NewsNight show, Phillip claimed that Americans don’t want Trump ordering federal troops into crime-ridden cities.

Shapiro argued that liberal lawmakers were making a mistake by arguing that ‘crime in Chicago just isn’t that big of a deal.’

Phillip said she wanted ‘to focus on the reality, like the actual things that are happening.’

‘Voters are not – I think we are treating voters stupider than they are,’ the host explained. ‘You ask them in polls and they say, “We think crime is a problem. We don’t like the way Trump is handling it in the way that he is sending the National Guard.”‘

‘They want Trump to do more about crime. They don’t necessarily want him to send troops to cities,’ she added.
