During a heated exchange on CNN’s State of the Union, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem left host Jake Tapper momentarily speechless. Noem criticized Tapper for perceived bias regarding the shooting of a Minneapolis woman by an immigration officer.
Tapper questioned Noem on whether her comments about the incident might be unfair to the ICE agent involved in the shooting of Renee Good, who was shot through her car’s windshield.
Noem fiercely countered, remarking that she hadn’t heard Tapper criticize Mayor Frey for telling ICE to leave with a strong expletive, highlighting what she saw as a double standard in the media’s coverage.
Her bold rebuttal resonated with many online, with one supporter declaring that Noem had “absolutely crushed Jake Tapper” with her comeback.
In response to the incident, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey had instructed ICE agents to exit the city, an action he defended during his own CNN appearance following Noem’s remarks.
Frey dismissed suggestions that his rhetoric was problematic, reiterating to Tapper that the shooting was the result of an ICE agent irresponsibly wielding power, resulting in a tragic death.
Prior to his CNN appearance, Frey appeared to double down on his earlier stances on his X account. writing that ‘today is a good day for ICE to get out of Minnesota.’
The Trump administration has come to Ross’s defense over his shooting of Good, saying it occurred after Good intended to run the agent down with her car, while Democratic officials in Minneapolis say it was a murder.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker also noted during his own appearance on CNN that Noem should ‘resign or be impeached’ and that DHS Spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin should not have the job that she has’ because ‘she’s a pathological liar.’
Filmmaker JZ Murdock wrote on X that he believed Noem was ‘undeniably lying through her teeth.’
An X user posting under the handle of @BigLee84 added that Noem doesn’t deserve peace in any space that she’s in.’
Others, however, backed up Noem, including engineer and author Michael A. Rothman, who believes that Noem ‘provided facts and context to back up her defense of the officer’s actions.’
During an interview with the New York Times last Wednesday evening, President Donald Trump told reporters that Good ‘behaved horribly’ adding that she ran the ICE officer over. ‘She didn’t try to run him over. She ran him over,’ Trump noted at the time.
ICE has also claimed Good deliberately drove her burgundy SUV at agents, but witnesses dispute the claims, with Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey calling it ‘bulls**t’.
Witnesses claimed Good and her wife, Rebecca, were allegedly acting as legal observers and filming the protest when she was shot.
But ICE insisted she tried to use the SUV as a deadly weapon.
Footage of the shooting showed the victim blocking the road with her car until ICE agents told her to move away.
She reversed to head back down the road as an agent tried to open the driver’s side door handle before she drove off. Three shots then rang out.

Good lost control of the SUV and slammed it into parked cars and a light pole at high speed, prompting screams of shock from horrified onlookers.
Her SUV was seen with a bullet hole through the driver’s side windshield.
Good and Rebecca are understood to have fled the US after Trump’s victory in 2024, going briefly to Canada before settling in Minneapolis.
They have a six-year-old child together.
State and local officials demanded ICE leave Minnesota after Good’s death. But Noem has said agents are not going anywhere.
